Rico
People
often ask us what is there to see in Ponce? Some of our passengers
claim that the museum of Art in Ponce by itself makes it a must for any
traveler.

we leave the museum, we will visit Ponce's Square Las Delicias.
Indian laurel trees, fountains, the the most unique Firehouse on planet
earth "El Parque de Bombas." In 1820, when Ponce was just
beginning to progress commercially and agriculturally, the town was
partially destroyed by a terrible fire that burned more than 100
homes. Three years later, Governor Miguel de la Torre, impressed by
the tragedy, founded the first corps of firefighters on the island.
Men between the ages of 16-20 were required to train as firefighters and
to provide their own equipment. Years later the seacoast area, then the most
important commercial center of the region, was destroyed by a fire.
When this occurred the Count of Mirasol ordered the formation of a new
corps of firefighters, to be made of volunteers and whose equipment was to
be supplied by the municipal government.
